SWE Memberships are broken down into two categories: Collegiate and Professional.
The Standard Collegiate Membership is $20 annually and is available to college students pursuing degrees in engineering or engineering-related fields and not employed full time in an engineering position.
The Collegiate to Career (C2C) Membership is $50 and a one-time payment for membership that will last throughout a member’s (consecutive) college career plus one additional year of professional membership after graduating. This is a great deal for students! As someone who joined during undergrad and then immediately transitioned into a PhD program, I will have received almost a decade of membership from my one-time payment.
There are also reduced rate Collegiate joint memberships with professional organizations NSBE, SHPE, and AISES and discounts for members from low- and middle-income countries. Refer to the Collegiate Memberships page to learn more about the rates and restrictions.
The Standard Professional Membership is $100 a year, but there is also a Recent Graduate discount for university graduates with a graduation date within the previous 24 months. Additional options exist for employees not working as engineers, K-12 educators, and Life Members. Similar to the Collegiate Memberships, special rates are available for SHPE or AISES joint memberships and global members.
Note that if you were once a professional member and go back to school, you cannot revert back to a Collegiate Membership. But there does exist a special Professional Back-to-School rate that you can select!
Benefits of SWE Membership include access to a global and local community of engineers, professional development through SWE’s AdvanceLearning Center, leadership training and experience, diversity training, SWE annual and local conferences, and much more!
