PhD in Mechanical Engineering expected 2023
University of New Hampshire
We are excited to introduce Elizabeth Mamros, a finalist in the WE20 Graduate Student Virtual Competition! Elizabeth has been a member of SWE since 2015. During her time at Penn State Behrend, Elizabeth organized and participated in many outreach events, including Women in Engineering Day and Girl Scout Day, to expose local K-12 students to STEM opportunities and to inspire them to pursue their dreams in these fields. In 2019, Elizabeth started graduate school at the University of New Hampshire and became a member of the UNH SWE organization.
At WE20, Elizabeth received 3rd place overall in the Graduate Student Virtual Competition for her poster titled "Custom Metallic Biomaterials Through Controlled Deformation and Phase Transformation in Stainless Steel 316L". In 2021, Elizabeth was selected to participate in the virtual WeLocal Collegiate Competition for her work on "Automated Design Modifications for a 3D Printed Headband Geometry in a Distributed, Cyber Manufacturing Environment". Elizabeth is a 2021 IIE-GIRE fellow, which will allow her to travel to Dortmund, Germany to research a novel multi-tool incremental forming process using a one-of-a-kind machine constructed by the Institute for Forming Technology and Lightweight Construction (IUL).
Elizabeth’s research is on Sheet Metal Forming for Trauma Fixation Applications. She focuses on novel sheet metal forming processes, such as double-sided incremental forming, and manufacturing heterogeneous biomaterials for trauma fixation applications, e.g., cranial implants, as part of the NH BioMade project. Elizabeth conducts her research at UNH's John Olson Advanced Manufacturing Center and enjoys mentoring undergraduate researchers in the laboratory and leading STEM outreach efforts.
After completing her PhD, Elizabeth will pursue a career in academia that will allow her to continue her research in advanced manufacturing technologies with an emphasis on biomedical applications while educating future generations of engineers. Elizabeth also plans to continue her K-12 STEM outreach efforts throughout her career and to pursue additional international research collaborations.
Elizabeth’s hobbies include geocaching, kayaking, hiking, reading and volunteering.
Fun fact: Elizabeth is an avid geocacher and a Little Free Library steward!
