This position focuses on the organization and planning of graduate student related content at the WE annual conference. This position will be involved in the curation of graduate specific seminars, planning the GradSWE mixer and afterparty, as well as working with other GradSWE executive members to increase graduate representation and participation at WE conferences. This is a two year appointment with your first year serving as GPC-E so that you can learn and prepare for your second year, where you will serve as GPC and train the next GPC-E. This system ensures that you feel supported and confident when it is your time to take the lead. We also feel that this system ensures success without overloading any individual team member.
In general, this position will take up anywhere from 2-3 hours a week consisting of planning meetings, vendor identification, vendor scheduling, and some other miscellaneous tasks relating to the WE national conference. You will also get the opportunity to interact with our GradSWE executive board at our monthly meetings, giving the chance to network, have fun, and discuss our overall plans for WE22/23 and how we think the GradSWE community can evolve in that time.
The requirements for this position:
- GPC-E must be available to attend BOTH WE22 and WE23 conferences. WE22 takes place in Houston, TX from October 20-22, 2022. WE 23 takes place in Los Angeles, CA from October 26-28, 2023.
- Must be a current SWE graduate student or recent Ph.D./M.S. graduate. Meaning that the candidate will be a graduate student sometime between Feb 2022-Dec 2023.
- SWE member in good standing.
Being a part of GradSWE leadership is a great resume builder, as well as a great way to connect and have fun with your SWE community. You will have lots of opportunities to interact and meet new people at the conferences, advocate for graduate programming at a higher level, and participate in SWE like never before. We encourage anyone with interest to apply! It is a very fun, high energy team with a lot of creative ideas and we are very excited to meet our newest member. If you have any questions or just want to chat about the position, feel free to email me at astubber@uky.edu or through the GradSWE GPC email at gradsweprogramming@gmail.com.
